Full of vibrant energy and unbelievable beauty, the capital city of Czech Republic will sweep you off your feet. It is nearly impossible to simply list out the best things to do or the top things to see in Prague because the city has such a colorful vibe that every other street you come across will mesmerize you so much so that you’d want to click a thousand photos of it! So, make sure you carry extra memory cards for your camera!

Even though it is difficult to capture the beauty of this city completely in a post, we understand that you might be visiting Prague just for a limited number of days. So, we will guide you through the best of the best that this amazing city has to offer.
1. Visit Prague Castle
More than just a palace, this castle complex is a town on its own. It is the largest ancient castle in the world occupying an area of 70,000 square meters. You could easily get lost in its beautiful architecture.

And do make sure to go up the St. Vitus Cathedral tower. Those 297 steps will be worth the climb when you see Prague from the top.

Another beautiful area in the castle that you wouldn’t want to miss out on is the Golden Lane. This narrow and charming street, lined with colorful houses, is one of the most photogenic areas in the castle.
P.S. While you’re at the castle, don’t forget to catch the changing of the guards ceremony at 5 pm!
2. See the Charm of Old Town Square
One of the most popular areas of Prague and also one of the most beautiful, Old Town Square is where the world’s oldest operating astronomical clock is located. See it in action every hour when it strikes and plays some beautiful music.

Old Town Square will mesmerize you with its Medieval European charm. An area so colorful that you wouldn’t want to leave.
You will mostly find this area crowded with tourists, so be sure to get there early if you want to have the square to yourself and get some good photos!

3. Stroll on the Charles Bridge
The most historic bridge of Prague, formerly known as the Prague Bridge, will surely transport you to a fairytale world with its beautiful baroque style architecture.

Built over the Vltava river, it joins the Prague Castle with the Old Town and provides some stunning views of both sides. The cobblestone path of the bridge gives it the ultimate European vibe as well.

4. Eat Trdelník from any Street Stand
Now, these little rolls of melt-in-the-mouth dough are nothing but heavenly! So you absolutely cannot miss it!
It is made by wrapping dough on a stick and then grilling it over charcoal until it turns golden and crispy on the outside. Then it can be topped with almost any kind of topping of your choice. The traditional version is made by rolling the pastry in a cinnamon sugar mix, but modern variations include filling it with strawberries, nutella, whipped cream or even your favorite ice cream.
We found rolling the cake in cinnamon sugar, coating its inside with nutella and filling it with whipped cream to be the most delicious combination.

You will find “Trdlo” (another name for Trdelník) street stands at almost every other corner in the city, so they are definitely not hard to find. Grab yourself one or even two while you roam around the beautiful Old Town Square.
They look very similar to their Hungarian cousin called Kürtőskalács and are even made of the same ingredients, but trust me, they are poles apart in terms of taste!
5. Shop at Wenceslas Square
Also known as the Times Square of Prague, Wenceslas Square is full of all kinds of brands and outlets you can imagine. No matter what time of day or night, this area is always lively with people roaming and music playing all around.
We loved this area so much that we kept going back almost everyday!

6. Experience the Local Czech Cuisine
If you’ve read any of our previous articles, then you would know that food is not only the highlight of our travels, but also a means through which we connect to a place and its culture. And Czech food has so much story to tell.
In order to truly understand Czech culture, we think the best way is to take a food tour, where the guide will take you to the hidden gems of the city, away from touristy scams and make you taste the most authentic local food. They will also tell you about the history behind the dishes and the cuisine.
We feel really excited whenever we do a food tour! In Prague, we went with Prague Food Tour company on their “Scrumptious Food Tour”. During this 4 hour tour, we were guided through four amazing eateries where we tasted the most delicious local Czech dishes we could imagine! The dishes included kolache (a doughy pastry that holds a portion of fruit in the middle), local Czech beers, Becherovka (the famous Czech herbal liqueur), pickled cheese, steak tartar, fruit dumplings and so much more!
We had an absolute amazing time during the food tour and learned a lot about the Czech culture as well. We suggest you try it out too!
7. Take a Photo with the Franz Kafka Head
Representative of modern artwork in Prague, this structure is made up of 42 independently driven layers of stainless steel that keep moving and give the face a different look every second you look at it. It is definitely quite an amusing sight to see.
It is located in a busy shopping street, right in the heart of Prague. So, it will not be hard to find.

8. Climb to the top of Petrin Tower
Don’t you just love the Eiffel Tower and wished you could see it wherever you went? Well, we do! And our wish just came true when we saw the Petrin Tower.
When you walk from Prague Castle towards Mana Strana, it is possible that you sight something that looks quite like the Eiffel Tower. But don’t be shocked, Paris hasn’t gifted their pride to Prague. What you’ll be looking at is called the Petrin Tower and yes, it looks a lot like the Eiffel Tower.

Located on top of the Petrin Hill, you can only reach the tower on foot since cars are not allowed on the hill. The hike is about 10 minutes and you will be going through the lush, thick trees to finally reach the tower.
Once you’re there, make sure you climb its 299 steps to get the ultimate view of Prague!

9. Drink Luscious Hot Chocolate from Choco-Cafe
This cozy little place, located in the Old town square area, serves one of the best hot chocolates in Prague and that too in a crazy 1000 varieties! Yes, you read it right, one thousand!
If you’re a chocolate lover like us, then this place will completely melt your heart with joy (and chocolate, of course).

They also have some delicious cakes and pastries, but what you also shouldn’t miss while you’re there are their Horice Rolls. It’s looks quite like a cannoli but tastes so much better!

It’s made up of a round and hollow cookie, which is filled with sweet cream and you dunk it in warm melted chocolate as you eat it. My mouth is watering again already!
10. Have breakfast at Cafe Louvre
Set up in lovely art decor, this cafe has 100 years of history behind it. As you enter the cafe, you will see old photos of the place from the early 1900s that will teleport you to historical times.

We absolutely enjoyed having their delectable strudel with our cappuccinos, as we admired their interiors.
Also, you will be able to buy Einstein souvenirs in the lobby because, apparently, Albert Einstein was a regular here!
11. Check Out the City Views from Letna Park
Located on the Vltava river embankment of Letna Hill, this park is a great place to relax and people watch while enjoying the beautiful cityscape. From here you can see all of the bridges of Prague in one sight.

The park also has one of the best beer gardens in Prague, which is aptly named as the Letna Beer Garden. You can chill out here for hours, sipping on fine Czech beers, eating greasy Czech street food, and taking in the stunning views of the city.
Capture as many pictures as your heart desires!
12. Eat Kremrole from Lukáš Skála Cukrář
Now, they might look quite similar to Cream Horns and are even made with the same ingredients but they taste so different! The pastry is so flaky and delicate, and cream so fresh and light that it will just melt in your mouth the moment you bite into it.
Once you’ve tried it, it’s hard to stop yourself at one!

We fell in love with Prague the moment we stepped foot on its streets. To us, it is a city that has it all. From stunning architecture and lively squares to romantic vibes and great food, it is the definition of how a fairyland should be!
So what are you waiting for, be it winter or summer, there isn’t a bad time to visit Prague. Go pack your bags now!

Prague is a beautiful city and you’ve captured so many of the special. hings about it. Good advice about the clock! It gets SO crowded. Being short, it was difficult seeing around tall people’s heads even with the clock being so high.
I’m a foodie so definitely, you’ll find me at the food and drink spots. It would be so nice to enjoy all the local Czech food, I would also love to bring home dome Czech recipes as souvenirs. Anyway, the Bridge and Old Town would be really good photo spots.
